“Mechanics have the ability to turn a frustrating breakdown into a valuable lesson in resilience and problem solving.” Erik Campbell, a Level 3 Senior at CPACTC, from West Perry High School, is learning just that as a Service Technician Apprentice employed at Faulkner Chrysler,
Dodge, Jeep, Ram.
Erik decided to apply to CPACTC because of the variety of programs the school offers. Ultimately, he chose to pursue his technical skill training in the Automotive Technology Program to learn more about the automotive industry.
In the Summer of 2023, Erik accepted a position with the Faulkner Automotive Group
in the Service Technician Apprentice Program. This trainee program pairs students
with a mentor who is a master-level technician and teaches them to work as
professionals in the automotive field, offering instructions to learn the basic and
advanced skills in maintenance, diagnosis and overhaul procedures.
Erik is pictured with his mentor, Jason. Through Co-Op Capstone, Erik works with his mentor everyday and is focusing on learning the skills necessary to be a successful automotive
technician. He credits the program in helping him become more comfortable with
diagnosing, repairing and maintaining electrical systems. After graduation, Erik plans
to continue working at Faulkner CDJR and grow with the organization since the
company has won a combined 56 Best Places to Work Awards!
His advice for CPACTC students is to research local businesses and participate in as
many job shadowing opportunities as you can. In doing so, you gain a better
understanding on how companies operate, get hands-on experience, discover new
career options and possibly open the door to co-op employment!
