During the 2022-2023 school year, Ashley Rodgers attended the Highmark Caring Place Summit which focuses on children’s grief awareness. With her peers, literature was distributed to students along with a support wall of sayings from other classmates at the Cumberland Perry Area CTC. But Ashley wanted to expand her audience in the 2023-2024 school year so after attending the Highmark Caring Place Summit again, she planned a school wide student butterfly decorating contest.
CPACTC carpentry students constructed wooden butterflies for each program to participate in the decorating. Students creatively decorated the butterflies and on Thursday, November 16, 2023, CPACTC students voted for their favorite butterfly which is also Children’s Grief Awareness Day. Students participated in a bake sale that raised money for the organization as well. The winning program received a pizza party and the beautiful butterflies were donated to the Highmark Caring Place. Even though Ashley is a senior, she is hopeful this event will continue to soar with student involvement.
