AMT Program Teacher Spotlight- Mr. Fogleman

What is the most significant new or different aspect to your program this year?

“More tools are available to the students. Later this year we hope to roll out automated inspection “CMM”.

What are some of the more common career pathways your students take when they leave CPACTC?

“Typically, they go on to be a Machinist, or something in the Engineering field, or a Machine Operator.”

What training/unit do employers seek that helps students get their foot in the door?

“Good soft skills, measurement skills, ability to accurately operate equipment, and ability to program and set up CNC machines.”

What are some of the recent technologies and/or trends in the profession with which students become familiar?

“Solid Works, Mastercam, CNC Machinery, and CMM Machine.”

What unit/topic do students struggle with the most in your program?  Why do you think that is?

“Troubleshooting issues, there are so many variables when working in this trade field. Problems are never the same, coming up with just one fix for a thing that went wrong usually doesn’t happen. Normally when something goes wrong, there was more than one thing that needs fixed to be operational again.”

Explain a typical day in your program.

“Students arrive, get changed. Early students head to the shop and get started, once all students are present, we do attendance, then break in to level tasks, theory, and shop projects. End of day is mostly clean up workspaces and head home.”

What advice would you give students who have completed your program?

“Never stop learning, technology is always changing, and you will need to stay up to date."

How many years have you been at CPACTC?

“Almost 11 years.”

What was your experience before coming to CPACTC?

“I went to Penn College, then HACC and spent 16+ years in Machining.”
